Below is a short article on how technology works with the clock shop. This article will run in the 2017 Vision insert of the Meadville Tribune. This is an exclusive preview for my blog readers.

It is quite amazing how an
“Antique Profession” such as clock repair can use modern technology. I have
been repairing and restoring clocks of all types for over 30 years, seeing my
business grow each year. However, during
the past several years I have seen double digit growth each year. I credit this fantastic growth to my online
presence and the ability to service customers while answering questions and
concerns in a very efficient and fast manner via the world wide web.
Social media has allowed
the growth of servicing customer’s clocks and given me the opportunity to
welcome repairs from all over the United States, as well as around the
World. I author a blog on clock repairs,
stories, history, and lore that is read by thousands each week with
readers/followers from every continent except Antartica. Again permitting to receive and service clocks
shipped into the shop for repairs. A
Facebook and webpage presence has allowed for the growth of clock sales for the
shop; we have begun the creation of an online store to augment the sales of
clocks and to expand upon the repairs brought into the shop.
While the social media
aspect has emboldened the repair and sales aspects of the clock shop, online audio/visual communication “SKYPE” permits
contact of my suppliers and fellow horologists in Germany, the United Kingdom,
and other European countries, thus growing my professional knowledge and ability
to research/obtain parts quickly worldwide.
Overall technology has
permitted the growth of business beyond my expectations, allowed the clock shop
to expand the availability of parts, growing the repairs portion of the shop
and expanded servicing opportunities.
The growth of technology has increased the sales portion of the shop,
expanding offerings and detailed descriptions/photos of pieces while being able
to answer questions and concerns of potential customers online.
